888

888 is one of my favorite places to eat at in Austin. It is located on 2400 E Oltorf, between Willow Creek and Pleasant Valley so it is not too far from campus and extremely close to Riverside. 888 has a huge variety of Asian dishes such as Lo Mein, Curry, Fried Rice, and the extremely popular Pho. Their menu is pretty huge so making a decision is kind of difficult. We had Fried Egg Rolls for an appetizer, which were great. I had the Thai Pineapple Fried Rice at the recommendation of the waiter. It was served in half a pineapple and was fantastic! My friend had the Sesame Chicken which was also very delicious. 888 even has some pretty weird desserts such as an Avocado Smoothie and a Durian (the really smelly fruit) Smoothie. So if you're feeling adventurous you should definitely give one a try. Overall 888 has a huge variety of very tasty choices and it is not too expensive, so this place is definitely worth checking out.

Eastside Cafe

If there is one thing Austin does right, it's converting old homes in to the most delicious of restaurants! Last night, I had the pleasure of checking out Eastside Cafe for the first time. Located on the east side of I-35 where Dean Keeton and Manor Road intersect, this cozy little cafe is the perfect spot for a low key and delicious meal! Their menu ranges from soups and salads to enchiladas and tenderloin, options for any and every appetite. I enjoyed a delicious Greek Chicken Salad with their homemade feta vinaigrette on the side. I'm somewhat of a Mediterranean food fanatic and ALWAYS have to try a new spot's version of their Greek Salad when opportunity knocks. I know not everyone is crazy about salads which is why I must also describe the meal my friend ordered. Get ready...Pork Tenderloin, garlic mashed potatoes and roasted butternut squash with a soy ginger sauce drizzled over the top! The squash was by far the best part of his meal, as surprising as that may be to some of you! Unfortunately, because I was so caught up with the delectability of my dinner, I forgot to take a photo. Whoops! But take my word for it, this is not a place you want to miss out on! Oh and I forgot to mention, they have homemade jalapeno cornbread as a starter! Yummmmm

The MoJo Room

Located right by highlandmall the MoJo room is a great place to go after anytime of the day. They have a great happy hour for 11 to 11 with $3 you call it’s for those of you that are 21 and up. The food is to die for from the appetizers to the entrees. When I went I had the blackened tilapia with mash potato and corn. Just because it was 50 cent wing Monday and I am a greedy person I also order their sweet and sour chicken to-go. I have no complaints about anything I had which does not happen a lot because I am a picky person when it comes to food. If you are looking for a place to go for something Cajun you must go here.

Jalapeno Joes!

You can find this little gem tucked into the strip of stores on Red River St. between Wells Fargo and Jimmy Johns, only minutes away from the UT campus. I love Jalapeno Joes because they're cheap, they're tasty, and they serve breakfast tacos all day. What else can you ask for?
The place is really relaxed. I was able to chow down and watch the longhorn network at the same time. The service was also quick & very polite.

I ordered a bowl of tortilla soup which was delicious. All the ingredients tasted fresh and it was seasoned perfectly. I also ordered one bacon, egg, and cheese taco along with one potato, egg, and cheese taco. Both tacos together cost around $3.50, which is pretty cheap compared to places like the Taco Shack. The tacos are packed with food and amazing-ness and definitely a good deal.
I seriously had to dig in before I snapped a picture. I just couldn't help myself!
